CHAROLAIS

The Foxhillfarm herd of Charolais cattle was established in 2023 with all the foundation stock coming from the Gretnahouse herd dispersal. The initial purchase of Gretnahouse Jannabel, a tremendous cow by the easy calving Blelack Digger for 4000gns, was followed by further private purchases of what are regarded as some of the best bloodlines within the breed.

Firstly Gretnahouse Orangina, who doesn’t need any introduction having produced the 50,000gns Gretnahouse Tequila at the dispersal sale.

The matriarch, Gretnahouse Garadise, a daughter of the great Balmyle Paradise cow and again by the easy calving Blelack Digger should offer some firm footings to the herd as well.

Gretnahouse Perfect, by Balthayock Gladiator and Gretnahouse Masweety, sired by the popular Wesley Equinox both hail from the Gretnahouse Beauty line and also joined the herd.

Last, but not least, Gretnahouse Ulric, the son of the above mentioned Gretnahouse Perfect and by Lochend Nighthawk. He is a bull calf that has everything, length, style and a temperament to match.

The summer of 2024 saw the first outings for the Foxhillfarm Charolais herd in the form of Gretnahouse Ulric. Devon County Show saw Ulric place first in his class and then male champion, meanwhile at the Royal Cornwall he was again placed first in his class and then stood reserve male champion to his father, the 28,000gns Lochend Knighthawk.

The autumn of 2024 saw the annual bull sales take place where we purchased the class winning Hollywell Unclebob at the Stirling Bull Sale, catching our eye in the showring for his tremendous width and body and achieving a daily live weight gain of 1.84kg. He is sired by Nuthampstead Judas, who is the sire of Lochend Nighthawk.

Welshpool Bull Sale saw us sell Gretnahouse Ulric, he was placed first in his class and then went on to stand overall champion before selling for 9000gns.

The winter calf shows saw the first outings for Foxhillfarm Victorious, sired by Lochend Nighthawk and out of Gretnahouse Masweety. She was placed first, champion continental calf and supreme pedigree calf at the Agrifest South West. She then headed to Starts Of The Future where she again won her class and stood reserve female junior champion.

She then kicked off the summer of 2025 with a reserve female championship at Devon County Show. At the same show our new herd sire, Hollywell Uncle Bob took the breed championship and interbreed pairs.
