Royal Cornwall Show this week will certainly go down in the Foxhill history books, not only for the rosettes won in both the beef and sheep rings, but for an impromptu meeting with our Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.
Having come through as female and breed champion in the Limousin classes, Foxhillfarm Naomi came out for her first outing this year as a cow with calf at foot following an unbeaten run as a senior heifer. Not content with having won the Continental and then overall cow and calf title, she thought a close encounter with Prime Minister Boris Johnson might just push her chances of an overall interbreed win in the right direction. Having politely backed her to win after Naomi chose to take part in the Prime Minister’s press interviews, judge and H&H auctioneer Jimmy Little obviously shared Mr Johnson’s thoughts, as he tapped out to take the overall title of the show.
Having already taken an interbreed title herself at North Somerset Show, our Aberdeen-Angus heifer, Blelack Princess Carina X125 came through as breed champion in the Aberdeen-Angus classes under judge Robert Clarke. Our homebred baby bull, Foxhill Patrick X157, stood second in his class and then followed through as reserve male champion.
Meanwhile in the sheep rings, the Charollais did us proud yet again as our aged ram took the breed championship under judge Kenny Malcolmson, with our shearling ewe winning her class, as well as our shearling ram, ram lamb and ewe lamb. The shearling ram then teamed up with the reserve breed champion from Tom Nancekivell to take the interbreed pairs under judge Jonathan Long.
The Texels saw first prize places for both our ram lamb and ewe lamb and the ram lamb went one better to take reserve interbreed ram lamb honours.
Wrapping up proceedings in the most perfect way was Neville and Charlotte’s Suffolk shearling ewe who having won her breed championship took the nod in the overall interbreed championship giving the Foxhillview flock its first interbreed title.
The show team will be having a well earned break now ahead of making the journey north for the Highland Show later this month.
